Family day trip from the Illawarra! Berry and Jervis Bay
It’s no secret how spoilt rotten we are in the Illawarra when it comes to our stunning surroundings and location – it’s little wonder therefore, why more and more families are now calling this region HOME.
One of the biggest pluses to living here, is its close proximity to the stunning Shoalhaven region with its beautiful, pristine beaches. Being able to jump in the car at a moment’s notice has got to be one of the biggest advantages to having such a beautiful coastline on our doorstep! With the Shoalhaven region so close, day tripping is a must for families looking for adventure, sun and escape!
Hot day tripping tips before setting off
Download an Audiobook before setting off to keep kids sweet and occupied in the car (it might also save your sanity and from countless re-runs of I Spy). If you have a Wollongong Library card you can download the BorrowBox app and download e-audiobooks for FREE!
From the Gong it’s about 45mins to Berry. And if it’s blowing a southerly, make an optional stop at the exciting Kiama Blowhole!
Berry is a cute town, busy and bustling! For the kids, there is a sweet shop and cool toy shop to get lost in – adults will love the local pie and patisserie shop and the array of boutique homewares and clothing stores.
Then you can head on down to Jervis Bay and Booderee National Park – a stunning location and only another 45min from Berry further down the coast. Enjoy the drive through the bush once past Nowra.
Another must on the Day Trip agenda is Green Patch – the brown water stream here has Tree Tea tannin run off, which is actually medicinal and has good anti-bacterial and anti-fungal benefits for anyone with feet issues. Oh, and don’t forget to take a paddle!
Then head on down to the popular Hyams Beach, where the white sands will blow your mind! Watch out for roo’s in the bush and picnic area behind the beach too!
And for the last stop, make a visit to Huskisson, where the pub overlooks the ocean, boasting awesome family-friendly food for hungry tummies. A well deserved break after such a fun and cool day of sight-seeing adventure!
