HARS Aviation Museum Tarmac Days

One of the Illawarra's best kept secrets for a great family-friendly day out!

The HARS Aviation Museum, located at Shellharbour Regional Airport in Albion Park (just over an hour by road South of Sydney), is a fantastic local tourist attraction that showcases some of Australia's aviation history, right here in the Illawarra.

Tarmac Days will be held outside the HARS hangars on the weekend of the second Friday of the Month and involve the static display of some of our distinctive aircraft. Members of the public will be able to board and sit in some of the aircraft. All exhibits are staffed by guides who can help you live the experience.

Pre-Christmas Aviation Spectacular | December Tarmac Days: Friday 12, Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 December

Visitors are in for a rare aviation thrill as historic military aircraft roar back to life at the legendary HARS Aviation Museum. This year’s final Tarmac Days showcase marine surveillance and submarine-hunting aircraft, including the Grumman Tracker, Lockheed Neptune, Lockheed Orion and the crowd-favourite Caribou with its jaw-dropping short take-off and landing.

Watch live flying demonstrations, see priceless aircraft up close, explore active restoration projects, walk through the iconic Qantas Boeing 747, and enjoy a BBQ under the wings at Café Connie.

This is the only place in Australia to witness this heritage flying action — and it’s all powered by passionate volunteers. A must-see for aviation lovers, history buffs and families alike.

Operating since 1979, this local aviation 'interactive' museum is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historical aircraft, including the last Boeing 747-400 in Australia.

You can board many of their aircraft and the museum offers families a wonderful opportunity to get up close and personal with the aeroplanes, walk through the hangars, sit in some of the cockpits and even explore some of the planes on display.

Opening hours and admission: Open daily/7 days a week from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm, last tour leaves at 2pm. No need to book in advance though advance notice of groups of 10 or more is appreciated. General admission includes a guided museum tour through ALL of their displays and hangars. Tours are guided by their dedicated volunteers to ensure that you get the most out of the experience.
