What is the Foster Carer Allowance in NSW?
Foster carers in NSW receive a fortnightly care allowance to help cover the day-to-day costs of raising a child, ensuring they can focus on providing a nurturing environment. The amount varies depending on the age and needs of the child.
From 1 January 2026, the foster care allowance rates in NSW will range from around $697 to $1000+ per fortnight, per child. The rates differ according to age and are also higher for children with additional needs or for specialised placements. Note: The foster care allowance is not considered taxable income in NSW.
