HARS Aviation Museum

One of the Illawarra's best kept secrets for a great family-friendly day out!

The HARS Aviation Museum, located at Shellharbour Regional Airport in Albion Park (just over an hour by road South of Sydney), is a fantastic local tourist attraction that showcases some of Australia's aviation history, right here in the Illawarra.

Operating since 1979, this local aviation 'interactive' museum is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historical aircraft, including the last Boeing 747-400 in Australia.

You can board many of their aircraft and the museum offers families a wonderful opportunity to get up close and personal with the aeroplanes, walk through the hangars, sit in some of the cockpits and even explore some of the planes on display.

There is even a great cafe on site (Cafe Connie) for a pit stop for hungry little tummies while taking a break from all the busy plane gazing (kids menu too) as well as coffee, cold drinks and ice creams.

Tarmac Days - across the 3 days/weekend of the second Friday of the Month

Tarmac Days will be held outside the HARS hangars on the weekend of the second Friday of the Month and involve the static display of some of our distinctive aircraft. Members of the public will be able to board and sit in some of the aircraft. All exhibits are staffed by guides who can help you live the experience.

Opening hours and admission: Open daily/7 days a week from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm, last tour leaves at 2pm. No need to book in advance though advance notice of groups of 10 or more is appreciated. General admission includes a guided museum tour through ALL of their displays and hangars. Tours are guided by their dedicated volunteers to ensure that you get the most out of the experience. VIP Tours

The HARS VIP Tours are unlike many others you may visit. The HARS' VIP Tours are perfect for special birthdays, families, kids & groups, Father's Day and other special events or days. Admission includes a guided tour through the premises, which owing to them being “working” hangars, requires an escort.  The advantage of this approach is that you will not be hampered by barriers and you will be able to experience the aircraft and other displays in a way that is just not possible elsewhere.

Remember – a tour takes at least 90 min so plan to arrive before 2 pm.

Note: The Albion Park museum can be very busy during weekends and school holidays, hence it may be advisable to call (+61 2 42574333) to check availability of tours. Otherwise there is no requirement to pre book for a family or individual tour, you can simply turn up. For larger groups of 10 or more it is advisable to call (+61 2 42574333) and book a tour for your group.
